If you live out of town or in a remote area, or just do lots of driving, you might consider using a Satellite car stereo. Nothing is more frustrating than losing your radio station signal when out on the road.
There are two satellite service providers that offer their services. One being XM Radio, the other being Sirius.
Service packages for XM Radio service start for as little as $9.99 a month; this is a basic package of 100 channels. You have the option of using a portable unit that can either be used in your car or at home, the Delphi XM SkyFi unit, or you can have a compatible XM-ready radio unit installed in your car. You can find a list of car radio models with MSRP’s at the XM website, with prices ranging from a couple hundred dollars on up into the thousands.
You can also upgrade your car radio with an FM Modulator or XM receiver in order to receive satellite service with prices ranging from $80 to $299 for the receiver.
The favorite among XM is the "Roady". With an MSRP of $119, the Roady has as several great features, not only is it the smallest satellite-radio antenna on the market, but it includes the new ultra-thin XM Micro Antenna. The Roady unit is compact and customizable; it comes with seven different options for screen-display and three different colored interchangeable faceplates.
If you prefer to go with Sirius Satellite Radio, their programs start at $12.95-per-month with 60 channels which are 100% commercial-free included in the 100 channels of programming package. Channels also include talk show, news, sports and audio refeeds from channels such as ESPN Sports, Fox News, and CNBC.
You can find a list of Sirius-ready car radio models on the Sirius website if you want a new satellite radio for your car. You can find compatible Kenwood products starting at $300 all the way up to $2499 for a AM/FM/DVD unit!
As with XM, Sirius offers you the choice to upgrade your present auto radio with the use of an FM Modulator. You can find a list of your available options at the Sirius website, with prices that range from $179 to $229.
Both XM and Sirius are excellent Satellite car radio service providers. It’s all a personal preference. Check out their websites to see what service would work best for you.
